Keynote Address: Building Back Better for All: Anchoring the 2030 Agenda in national development plans and strategies
In 2020, extreme poverty rose, with an additional 119 to 124 million people pushed back into poverty (Source: UN – SDG progress Report – 2021). The COVID-19 crisis caused the worst recession in 90 years, dealing a heavy blow to the ability of countries and the international community to mobilize the means of implementation required to support SDG transformation, this causing far reaching impacts on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable and the Sustainable Development Goals, undermining decades of development efforts.
Going forward, it is seen that the pandemic and the imperative to get back on track has reignited interest in development planning, including scenario planning that supports decision making by going beyond immediate responses to challenges such as the COVID-19 crisis and progressively integrating the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs into national development plans and strategies.

Thought Leaders Panel Discussion: Leadership Matters: How the C-Suite is seizing the ESG Opportunity
The global pandemic put a spotlight on the value of environmental, social, and corporate governance considerations across all sectors. There is an absolute explosion of net-zero commitments from companies and countries surrounding the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement.
ESG based investment decisions are directed toward long-term value creation for the business and the society. Consequently, it draws a direct connection with the SDGs’ concept of creating ‘shared value’ that represents a constructive intersection of market potential, societal demands, and policy action for a sustainable and inclusive approach to economic growth and well-being.
The session within business leaders aims at bringing together diverse perspectives.
Key Discussion Points:

  • State of ESG: where are we now?
  • Accelerate the transition to a low carbon, sustainable and equitable future
  • Moving ESG up the business sustainability agenda
